4-year-old nomad girl, who has gone missing from a far-flung area of Pahalgam Hill Station of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is untraceable from the last 23 days.
The minor girl named Shakira went missing near her dwelling in the forested area of Batkoot in Pahalgam on June 4 when the family was setting up their makeshift accommodation for summer months.
The family, however, alleges that the police and the administration have shown extreme laxity in handling the case. “One policeman came here and left after taking all the necessary details. Since then, no one has come this way. We have been tirelessly searching through the forest area to get a clue to no avail,” said a family member.
A senior official in the district said that a case has been already registered and efforts to trace the girl were on.
“It is a difficult terrain and far from the population. Wildlife people were taken along to try and find any traces of a wild animal being the culprit,” he said. Adding that efforts are going on to trace the minor girl.
Talking to GMK, a family member of the girl said, “Our daughter has been missing for the last 21 days as we searched for her everywhere in the forests. There is no whereabouts about her, we even don’t know whether she drowned in the nearby stream or was taken away by wild animals, ” the family said.
“We appealed to the District Administration, Anantnag to come forward and help us in tracing our daughter, but the administration is not paying any attention,” the family alleged.
Talking to Good Morning Kashmir, a senior police official said, “We are now investigating other possible angles to the case like animosity or a rivalry which might have played a part.” Adding that the family is clueless while they are making all efforts to locate the girl.
Meanwhile, the family continues to be in mourning waiting for their little child.
