complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today to mark the 28th anniversary of the 1993 massacre.
All shops and business establishments remained closed while as very thin traffic was on the roads.
More than 350 shops and other structures including residential houses were gutted on this day in 1993 after Border Security Force (BSF) went on a rampage in the town.
Human rights organizations like Amnesty International had condemned the killings of civilians and demanded justice for the victims. The Sopore massacre also got published in the Time magazine under the heading ‘BLOOD TIDE RISING.’ According to the magazine 55 persons were killed in the massacre.
