Barring roads linking border towns of Machil and Gurez with their respective district headquarters, all roads leading to far flung and remote villages, including near the Line of Control (LoC) which were closed due to fresh snowfall early this week, are open for traffic in north Kashmir.

All roads, including Kupwara-Karnah, Tangdhar and Kupwara-Keran, are open for traffic. The roads were closed due to fresh snowfall early this week.

However, the road between the border town of Machil with district headquarter Kupwara remained closed, a Police Control Room (PCR) official told UNI over the phone today.

He said a massive snow clearance operation is going on and the road is likely to be put through by this evening.

Meanwhile, traffic to the border town of Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK) from three sides, remained suspended since January 1 due to the accumulation of snow at Razdan pass and adjoining areas. Though fresh snowfall early this week, snow clearance operation was going on war footing to put through the road, officials said.
