The question which everyone in Kashmir is asking these days is whether or not winter will catch us on backfoot once again. Winters in Kashmir are hard, long and unforgiving. The temperatures often go below the freezing point as do the official machinery.
The power supply has always been a major concern for the valley people as more and more curtailment in chilling temperatures means that people have to make alternate arrangements for cooking and heating.
Even though the officials maintain that the essential items have been stocked up in the valley, but for the major part of the winter we see general populace running helterskelter for essential items.
The wholesale dealers hoard things and force shopkeepers to buy them at a higher price at their chosen time. The government has time and again promised to act against these businessmen but we have to see what will happen in coming months.
The establishment must put in the best efforts and put their best foot forward to ensure that the general masses do not suffer
Let us ensure that this winter no one suffers the way we have sufferrd in the previous winters.
