Coronavirus: India reports 29,429 new cases, over 580 people die in a day

New Delhi: India on Wednesday reported 29,429 new coronavirus cases, taking the total to 9,36,181. This is the highest daily rise in the number of infections. The toll rose by 582 to 24,309. More than 5.92 lakh people have recovered.

While as, Kashmir valley reported seven more COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday morning taking the fatality count due to virus to 202 in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.

Six of the deaths were reported from SKIMS Soura, the tertiary care hospital in outskirts of Srinagar, and one from GMC Anantnag.

Indian Council of Medical Research Director General Dr Balram Bhargava on Tuesday said that neither the Itolizumab nor the Tocilizumab drugs had demonstrated reduction in mortality among Covid-19 patients. Bhargava added that more trials were needed.

The global coronavirus count is now over 1.32 crore, while the toll has crossed 5.77 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University. More than 73 lakh people have recovered so far.
