New Delhi: India reported 48,916 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking its overall tally to 13,36,861. The toll rose by 757 to 31,358. More than 8.49 lakh people have recovered.
In Maharashtra, More than 8,000 police personnel have tested positive for the coronavirus so far. There have been 93 deaths in the police force while 6,314 personnel have recovered.

The Indian Council of Medical Research says 1,58,49,068 samples have been tested for the coronavirus so far.
World Health Organization (WHO) Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan warned that the concept of herd immunity, or a large section of the population developing antibodies against Covid-19, is still a distant reality. The scientist said that more waves of the infection would be required to reach the stage of natural immunity.
The global coronavirus count has now gone up to 1,56,72,841 while the toll has crossed 6.38 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
