Despite a rainfall, long queues of voters, mainly youth, were seen outside the polling booths in Surasyar and Narbal block of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday.
Talking with Good Morning Kashmir, voters said that better development of tourist spots and good jobs were the two main reasons for them to take part in the District Development Council (DDC) polls.
“We are voting for the benefit of our village. We want development in our area,” said a voter from Surasyar, Budgam.
A young voter Ajaz from Budgam that their village is in a great need of better road connectivity.
“We want to see our roads as good as in foreign countries It takes us 3 hours to reach the spot where we can reach in a less than an hour if the roads were better,” he said.
Zooni a voter from Zoohama Chadoora Budgam told GMK that many of their problems are pending since long.

“So, we decided to cast our votes to put an end to our problems,” she said.
Younis Ahmad another young voter from Hanjoora told GMK that they want to see development in their areas which, according to them, is very underdeveloped,
“We want the development of the tourist spots in our block especially in a Haijan Maidan,” Younis said. ” In Chadoora subdivision we have beautiful tourist attractions like Yousmarg, Charar-e-Sharief, Nilnag and Haijan, but they all have ignored by the government.”
Some youth came out to vote to end the unemployment.
Meanwhile, a police official told GMK that, “all the necessary security arrangements were put in place for the smooth conduct of poll today.”
