The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday suspended the year-long farmers agitation after the Centre accepted all the demands put forward by farmers, SKM said to the media persons.

SKM said it has received a formal letter from the Centre, through the Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, agreeing to several pending demands of the protesting farmers after which SKM formally announced the lifting of the morchas at Delhi Borders on national highways and various other locations in response.

Current agitation stands suspended, battle has been won and the war to ensure farmers’ rights, especially to secure MSP as a legal entitlement for all farmers, will continue, said SKM leaders.

Considering that the nation is mourning the demise of CDS Bipin Rawat and his associates, SKM decided to postpone all celebrations with regard to the victory of farmers, and celebratory rallies will be taken out on December 11, when farmers leave the morcha sites together in victory rallies.

To ensure that the Centre is keeping to its commitments made to the protesting farmers, and to chart out future course of action, SKM will hold its next meeting on January 15, in Delhi.

SKM said the Centre has assured that all cases registered in various states against the farmers during the protest will be taken back very soon. The Centre said it has been assured by five States regarding this, and two states have given their consents to provide ex-gratia to the farmers.

SKM said it is the victory of farmers who have been protesting for the last one year to get their demands fulfilled. Soon after the announcement of the end of the protest, the protesting farmers started uprooting their tents and started going back to their villages.
