aily commuters, particularly employees and students, in Pattan town of north Kashmir Baramulla district are facing hard time due to frequent traffic jams.
A group of commuters comprising employees and students said, that authorities have failed to regulate traffic in the main town Pattan particularly near Trauma Hospital.
They allege that traffic jams go from bad to worse each day.
Failure of the traffic department to ensure smooth flow of traffic has evoked strong resentment from the commuters and locals. “Frequent unending traffic jams have drastically affected our lives and business. The worst affected are the government employees and students,” locals said.
According to the locals the problem gets compounded as Army convoys heading for Srinagar and Jammu from Hyderbeigh often pass through Pattan town during peak hours.
“Local residents mostly keep the vehicles parked on the roads, leading to chaos and frequent traffic jams while the authorities are watching as mute spectators,” they said.
Locals said encroachers have randomly occupied footpaths leaving no space for the movement of pedestrians and the moving vehicles even on the main streets of the town thereby resulting in massive traffic jams.
The locals say that at many places the road is too narrow that also compounds the problem. “We appeal the higher authorities to look into the matter and address our grievances,” they added.
