Srinagar: For the first time since Covid-19 lockdown, congregational prayers were held at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid on Friday.
“We offered Friday (afternoon) prayers today after a gap of 21 weeks. The market is also open and if the situation remains normal, the prayers would continue,” said a local resident of Srinagar city.
Hundreds of men gathered at the mosque and offered the congregational Friday prayers while maintaining social distance.

Official sources said that security officers maintained a tight vigil to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
However, The Hurriyat (M) leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who leads the Friday prayers at the mosque was not seen in the Masjid, as he remains continue to be under house arrest.
