The snowfall for the past three days across Kashmir valley has thrown normal life out of gear. People mostly stayed indoors while residents of several areas complained that the administration had failed to clear the snow from even the main roads.
With the non-clearance of snow on majority of the roads, the commuters across the valley had to face tremendous hardships due to frequent slips.
“The snow was cleared on Monday early morning here in Mandir Lane, Abi Guzar, and since then no one has been visible around. Later, as the snow accumulated, the vehicles plying on the lane was severely affected, leaving hardly any vehicle to be able to ply on the road. The condition of lanes here is worse,” said Ishfaq Ahmad, of Abi Guzar.
“It is unfortunate that the authorities failed to clear accumulated snow on the roads thereby resulted in the sufferings to the commuters,” Zubaif Ahmad, one among the pedestrians who was seen pushing a vehicle told GMK, adding that the authorities have made no preparations to clear the snow from the vital areas here.
He said that it stands the responsibility of the authorities to ensure smooth conduct of vehicular movement but unfortunately they have left the commuters on god’s mercy.
Meanwhile, many people from north to south Kashmir complained that the authorities did not clear snow from the lanes and bylanes, which hit the pedestrian movement.
“We are forced to stay indoors. No men and machinery has been pressed into service to clear snow from lanes and bylanes,” Sameer Ahmad, a local of Dolipora area of Baramulla said.

Besides road clearance, the worsening power scenario in most of the areas in north Kashmir is also not providing any relief to the locals whose areas are reeling under darkness for the past three days.
“People are spending nights in darkness. The authorities are nowhere to be seen,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Irshad Ahmad, who hails from Kreeri said, “Most areas are witnessing severe powers cuts for the past threevdays.”
Despite repeated attempts, the administrative officials could not be contacted for the comments as they didn’t receive the calls.
