A gunfight has started between militants and armed forces personnel in Wanigam area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.
“Encounter has started at Wanigam Payeen Kreeri area of Baramulla. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” tweeted Kashmir Police.

Official sources said that a joint team of Police, Army’s RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Wanigam.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, ensuing a gunfight.
Sources added that exchange of gunfire between the joint team and the gunfight is underway.
