gunfight broke out between government forces and militants in Brath Seloo village of Sopore area in Baramulla district on Sunday evening.
A senior police official said after receiving specific information about presence of militants in the area a joint team of Rashtriya Rifles, police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation.
However, as the joint team of forces zeroed-in on a house where militants are believed to be trapped, the militants fired upon the forces’ team, triggering the gunfight.
The police official said at least two to three militants are believed to be trapped inside the house. He said the entire area has been cordoned and all exit routes in the area have been sealed.
A source said the forces have installed flash lights around the gunfight site. “The firing has been going on intermittently. Owing to the darkness the operation may be suspended for the night,” said the source.
