ather of slain Pulwama youth, Athar Wani killed in Hokersar gunfight, has dug a grave in anticipation for his son at their ancestral graveyard in Belou village.
The slain youth’s father, threatened to commit suicide if not provided with his son’s body.
In a video message, the father of 17-year-old slain can be heard saying: “Who do [troopers] kill for their stars? These small children.” Taking a dig at the government forces, the father added: “I congratulate the whole of India and the media who show that they have done an encounter. This was a fake encounter.”
Demanding the body of his son, he said: “I will wait till Im alive. Tomorrow, I’m going to Srinagar and if they don’t return me the body, I’ll commit suicide.”
Athar Mushtaq Wani, was killed in Srinagar encounter on Wednesday along with two other who were later buried in Sonamarg area of Ganderbal.

The father alleged that the encounter was “staged”.
“I don’t believe that my son was a militant. The whole episode was staged. Now I don’t want anything, except his body to be returned to be me,” requested the father.
Earlier, the families of the trio alleged militants disputed the official claim and staged a protest against the killings.
The families said that the killed youth were not militants and two of the three youth killed had left their homes a day before encounter only for some work.
On Wednesday, General officer Commanding (GoC) Kilo Force H S Sahi said that three militants killed in an encounter on Srinagar outskirts were planning a big attack on the highway .
“From some days , intelligence inputs were coming in about the militant movement on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway. Yesterday, when we developed leads and discovered that militants are hiding in a house opposite to Noora hospital at Lawaypora in HMT area,” Sahi said earlier on Wednesday.
He said that militants were repeatedly asked to surrender. “However they fired indiscriminately at security forces and lobbed grenades . The operation halted due to darkness but cordon layers were tightened duirng night. With the first light the firefight again resumed and militants started firing heavily on government forces. In the exchange of fire three militants were killed.”
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti had also questioned the actions of security forces. “Worrying that in the past few months after the Shopian fake encounter other families too in J&K have alleged that their sons were innocent and killed in a staged encounter,” she tweeted. “Authorities need to come clean on this.”
