head of the Prime Minister Modi’s all-party meeting with Jammu and Kashmir leaders, a body of Kashmiri Pandits on Thursday demanded the restoration of J&K’s special status and statehood.
“We demand immediate restoration of the statehood and special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian constitution ensures the right to equality that extends to individuals, religions, regions and all social and political institutions. The right to equality does not only ensure non-discrimination on the basis of the religion, caste, region or any other social and political sub-categories,” said Satish Mahaldar, chairman, of Reconciliation, Return and Rehabilitations of Migrants.

It is an opportune time to give back what is rightfully ours, Satish said. Adding that statehood, along with special status to J&K should be announced as early as possible.
“The fact is that J&K is surrounded by two hostile countries, Pakistan and China, and the UT has been badly suffering because of this. Therefore, it becomes imperative to accord special status to the UT,” he said.
Satish said that, giving special status to J&K will also allay the fears of the majority Muslim community.
He further said that, It’s high time that the Modi-led Central government takes some bold initiatives in giving relief to the people of J&K.
