Stephen A. Smith and Kyrie Irving are fighting over Kyrie receiving a long-term max contract due to him not playing games for various reasons during his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets. After opting into his third-year option worth nearly $37 million, Irving received criticism from Smith thatprompted a some heated exchanges and responses on social media. On Twitter Irving said, You’re gonna have to explain yourself to people in your generation. I am not around many 50 plus year olds that speak and act like you do, so this is new for me. But I am sure my father and my uncles can meet you on your level better than I can.
We know you STEPHEN.” Smith replied with a lengthy response in a tweet that largely mocked Irving’s stance, challenging Kyrie and offering him the opportunity to hold a public discussion about their issues. Smith said, “One day you will stop hiding behind public support. Come on a public forum, tell me the time and place and I’ll show up.” While Kyrie Irving has yet to respond to Smith’s offer, it is evident that this won’t be the final exchange between the two and the conflict will may escalate.
