Srinagar: Media professionals’ association today called on Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan.
The delegations were led by renowned journalists of the associations which put forth their demands and issues related to their work before the Advisor.
A deputation of Kashmir Journalists Association submitted its memorandum of demands which included preference to Mass Communication & Journalism postgraduates in allotment of promotional films on development, awareness and promotional schemes of various government departments.
The association also sought implementation of labour laws for the Media sector besides filling vacant posts of Department of Information & Public Relations on fast track basis.
Meanwhile, news media industry — among the few is thriving — with its lakhs of readers and viewers has been hit hard by the unprecedented economic standstill brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dwindling advertisements and a serious disruption in circulation of newspapers and magazines have forced media houses to take drastic steps — from slashing the number of pages, shutting printing to lay-offs and job cuts of professional journalists.
