Kulgam: Army Friday said that the killing of an IED Expert Waleed from Pakistan in Kulgam gunfight is a big success for them.

Shortly after the culmination of Nagnad gunfight in which three militants including Waleed were killed, Sector commander 9 Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier V S Thakur addressed a press conference and claimed that there are inputs from intelligence that militants may strike on Srinagar-Jammu Highway and may target Armarnath Yatra that begins from July 21.

“Security has already been beefed on highway and the stretch that is a bit sensitive has already been brought under security cover. We are ready to do foil the designs of militants and ensure smooth conduct of Yatra,” he was quoted as saying by local news gathering agency KNT.

In response to a question, the Army officer said that the number of militants in valley keeps on changing as it is not a static one. “There may be 100 militants in Valley among which 25 to 30 are non-locals.”

Regarding Nagnad Kulgam encounter, Brigadier V S Thakur said among the three militants killed one was an IED expert Waleed who tried to escape from the spot disguising as civilian, but army soldiers shot him down.
