nline fraudsters are on the prowl. In a case of alarming audacity a City man was duped of lakhs of rupees by online fraudsters by luring him with the news of her winning a jackpot lottery. Hundreds of cases have been registered with the cyber security police against these online fraudsters and investigation is on. However, our past experience with such probes across India tells us that in 90 percent of the cases the culprits are never caught. Online fraud is a huge menace and many people have been duped till date. There is this human propensity to become rich or famous overnight which these fraudsters exploit to the maximum. Some people involved in the stock market also do get calls and SMS’s telling them that they earn millions within a span of some days.

In most of the cases though innocent victims are told that the caller is calling from the nearby bank and needs details of their debit card for updation of KYC forms. The government needs to broadcast awareness through print media, radio, and Television. Besides, the banks can also create awareness events in this regard as part of Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR). The man in the fraud lottery case remained tight-lipped for the obvious reasons that he did not want to reveal to anyone about having won jackpot. We hope that he gets justice and no such case is repeated in future. The current establishment must take a proactive stand to this end
