Islamabad: Pakistan’s Senate on Tuesday passed a resolution asking the Imran Khan government to confer the country’s highest civilian honour ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’, upon Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Nishan-e-Pakistan is conferred by the president of Pakistan in a glittering ceremony in Islamabad.

The Pakistan parliament has passed a resolution conferring the highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Pakistan on Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The senate also proposed a technological institute in his name.
Previous recipients of the prestigious award include Queen Elizabeth II, Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro.
The resolution was moved by the Jamaat-i-Islami, senator, Mustaq Ahmad. Jamaat-e-Islami, or simply known as Jamaat.
Geelani had resigned on June 29 from the Hurriyat Conference (Tehreek-e-Hurriyat).
