Tourist hotspot being ruined by trash
Madam, the new tourist attraction in Tangmarg area of Baramulla district, is facing pollution threat from locals. People thronging the pristine greens tucked in the hills to experience its cool climes and the spectacular sunrise, are dumping wastes, especially plastic waste, which is turning out to be an eyesore.
The famous water canal, Babal flows through village Madam which is the first rest point for tourists, who are travelling towards famous tourist resort Gulmarg and Drang.
As per the locals, the place is piled with household waste, polythene, cow dung, rotten fruits, vegetables, and plastic waste.
“The spot lacks basic facilities such as dustbins, i have seen many visitors, they are dumping plastic bottles and food wastes on the premises of the spot,” said Mudasir Ahmad, a local resident.
“There should be dustbins and warning boards arranged for visitors not to spill any wastes,” he said.
“Many adjacent villagers are throwing household wastes at the spot,” onwards now we will keep an eye on those peoples who are throwing garbage here and strict action will be taken against them legally”, said Saqib ahmad.
Locals of the village request EO Muncipility Tangmarg to arrange some dustbins here in the area.
Lal Bazar residents facing drinking water shortage
Having a population of more than two lacs, the vast downtown area of Lal Bazar has so many day to day issues to contend with.
These issues have been taken up with the authorities many times but little or no headway is seen in resolving these problems so far.
From Bota Kadal to Sadre Bal, the areas falling within the vicinity have a huge scarcity of drinking water supply during peak hours of the day. Concerned department till date has been making promises for the early restoration of the main water supply which has been badly affected by the breach in a major pipeline near Rangil Ganderbal nearly two years ago. The Jal Shakti department is making tall promises about the restoration work, but every promise till date has proved as sham.
Another burning issue in Lal Bazar is the drug menace which has taken alarming proportions. Drugs are sold in broad daylight and under the nose of law enforcement department. Come evenings and drug peddlers sell contraband and other life threatening drugs to youth of the area. Ironically, these drug peddlers have field day near the playground of Lal Bazar.
The young generation is under the severe onslaught of drug menace endangering the future generation of the area.
We the residents of Lal Bazar and adjoining areas once again appeal to the concerned authorities to take strict action against these drug peddlers.
