everal areas in this south Kashmir district are facing acute shortage of drinking water with the residents demanding restoration of the potable water supply.
On Tuesday, the villagers, including women, children from Cherpora – Shangas area of the district staged a protest demonstration against prevailing water scarcity in the area.
Protest was staged inside the courtyard of the water tank at Cherpora village and protesters blocked the water supply for other villages.
“The water tank was established 10 years ago in Cherpora village, and till date the village is lacking basic facilities of water supply,” locals said.
Talking to Good Morning Kashmir the villagers said, “No water supply has been made functional in our area for the last several years and everyone is suffering badly in the village.”
Residents accused the Jal Shakhti department for not paying any attention to facilitating the water supply in the village and alleged that the employees in the area are not giving duty properly as they are suffering badly from water scarcity.
Talking to concerned AEE , Zameer Ahmad said that we have already submitted a proposal for this project, the area comes in high altitude of shangas area “I spoke to higher officials to send a water tanker in village till the proposal will approved by the government,” he said
Later, residents request the LG administration and district administration Anantnag to look into the matter and solve their long pending demand.
