Public transport disappears after sunset in Sopore

As the sun sets, public transport abruptly disappears from roads in Sopore, causing problems to commuters to reach their destinations.

The commuters from various city routes complained that absence of passenger buses, sumos or mini-buses in evenings takes a heavy toll on them.

“I’ve been waiting here in the main chowk from last one hour with my granddaughter, i have to reach Tarzoo, but unfortunately, no public transport is seen here on the road,” said an elderly woman, Taja Begum .

According to people most van and auto drivers opt to depart early during this season due to unknown reasons and they have turned arrogant and are charging high fare rates and are misbehaving with passengers.

“In Spite of the low petrol price, they are charging 12 rupees per passenger instead of 9 rupees,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a local resident.

Passengers say the student community, office goers are facing hardships for years now, especially during winters but there is nobody who listen and address their grievance.

Meanwhile, the commuters appealed to the higher authorities, especially ADC Sopore and Transport officials to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
