This is injustice. Where from parents will arrange money when they have already suffered due to Covid-19 lockdown. There is the need for the government to take note of such violations. During times when many people have lost their jobs and many have had to suffer pay cuts, anguished parents are requesting for a change in the fee structure and demanding concessions from schools. Citing teachers’ salary payment is only a lame excuse to collect money from parents, these Private schools drill a hole in the pockets of parents and put peanuts in the name of salary in the pockets of their teaching staff. Moving on from lesser known private schools to some of the renowned schools of the valley, there is a considerable increase in the number of students, the fees levied per head and the infrastructure, but the salary scale of teachers continues to be on the lower side.omplaints of a leading private schools forcing parents to pay fees amidst COVID-19 lockdown are pouring in Srinagar district. Parents complain that they are getting frequent phone calls and SMS from the school asking them to pay fees. Parents are also complaining of internet connectivity issues at both ends. They say this makes it very frustrating for children to study. They are also raising the concern that all parents don’t have laptops and other facilities. When the Government itself does not know as to when the schools could be reopened, why are the schools pressuring parents. The very promotion of online classes by schools is not to facilitate education, but only to collect fees. For instance, if there are two kids in a house, the family will have to provide a separate laptop to each of the students, which may not be possible for most of them. As online classes become the new normal for now, will schools consider changing the fee structure? The government must take immediate steps to take strict action against such educational institutions, who are forcing parents to pay fees during the lockdown.
