Tarzoo residents demand removal of encroachments on Canal

Residents of Tarzoo area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Tuesday demanded complete desilting of Nallah Khrusoo and urged the district administration to remove illegal encroachments for its full restoration.

Residents said that the Nallah Khrusoo which originates from Puthkha to Lalad & then to Amargarh and ends at river Jhelum, has been encroached at various places by people. While the Irrigation department has been unsuccessful in the maintenance of the canal.

They urged the irrigation department to wipe out the silt from the canal and restore it.

Adding Irrigation Department was desilting other minor canals but ironically continue to ignore their repeated pleas.

During winters Khrusoo canal has generated havoc due to the encroachment and not only devastated standing crops but also damaged some residential structures, said Aijaz Ahmed, Patron Central Auqaf Tarzoo.

“Despite our repeated pleas, Revenue and Irrigation & Flood Control department took the least interest in resorting canal to its original position”, he said.

However, Executive Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control department, Sopore Javed Ahmed Sofi said that the matter has been taken up and the desilting process will be started soon & the department will look into illegal encroachment matter.
