woman and a teenaged girl attempted to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at their homes on Monday in this north Kashmir district, official sources said.
They said teenaged girl consumed some poisonous substance at her home at Tarzoo in Baramulla. However, other family members immediately rushed her to nearby hospital from where she was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla.
They said in a separate incident, a woman tried to end her life by consuming poisonous substance at Rafiabad in Baramulla. She was also admitted to GMC hospital.
Meanwhile, police have registered cases in both the incidents and initiated proceedings.
Recently Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulma (MMU), an amalgam of over 20 religious organizations, headed by Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, presently under house detention, has expressed serious concern over growing number of suicides in the Kashmir valley.
The MMU has said social waywardness, drug abuse, domestic violence, family disputes, increase in divorce rate, and above all, the rising graph of suicides is a cause of great pain and anguish for every conscious human being.
