Every evening PIB tweets that we have increasing positive cases of Coronavirus in Jammu & Kashmir. A domino effect is created and people are made to believe that the more number of positive cases is because of aggressive testing and find-n-isolate measures adopted by government.
However, a keen observation points to a different position. After the August 5 lockdown a lot of Kashmiris went out of the state, some to do business and jobs and a substantial chunk of population went outside just to wait out the winter and the lockdown. Once the snow began to melt and the news of coronavirus began spreading all of these started flocking back home. Initially, when the novel coronavirus was not eternally hogging headlines, the Srinagar International Airport was welcome-to-all visitors.
All those with travel history to virus prone areas sneaked back to valley without being put in the mandatory quarantine.
All said and done it is hard to agree with the government’s version that more cases coming to the fore is because of the aggressive testing by the administration may be an overstatement. We can assume that these many cases are coming to fore because may be there are so many cases in our valley. May be we have just hit the tip of the iceberg and the reality of it all will dawn on us soon.
We do not want to predict a doomsday scenario but the establishment cannot afford to lower the guard. All that needs to be done must be done to prevent the further spread of coronavirus.
