Srinagar: A moderate intensity tremors rocked Kashmir on Tuesday evening as officials said no report of any casualty or damage to property has been received from anywhere so far.
According to earthquake.usgs.gov, 4.0 magnitude earthquake jolts India, Pakistan and China. While as, the epicentre of the earthquake was not immediately known.
“I thought some massive explosion had occurred outside our house,” a Srinagar resident said.
“It is too early to say as the earthquake occurred. We are gathering information to be absolutely certain,” said a senior official on conditions of anonymity.
Director MeT, Sonam Lotus when contacted, said, “I can’t comment on this, but yes, it’s not an earthquake,” he said.
Seismologically, Kashmir is situated in a highly earthquake prone region.
Earthquakes have wreaked havoc in Kashmir in the past.
