he residents of Rawalpora area of Srinagar City Tuesday accused the Power Development Department (PDD) of resorting to unscheduled power cuts in the area.
Residents said that for the past two weeks, the power supply is snapped for five to seven hours during day.
“In past two days, our area has faced several power cuts. We will be forced to stage protests if power supply is not provided to us as per the schedule. Our children are unable to prepare for examinations due to unscheduled power curtailments,” said Farooq Ahmad of Rawalpora.
Good Morning Kashmir received complaints from the majority of the people of the area that the power supply remains off for hours every day. “The power cuts are so frequent that it’s difficult to count the hours of supply we get. Tentatively we get some six to seven hours of power a day,” complained locals.

“Basically, there’s no curtailment schedule in place. The power is expected to be off during curtailment but afterwards we face more unscheduled cuts,” said Bilal Ahmad and accused the government of deliberately victimizing the residents of the area.
Locals said that they don’t get satisfactory answers when they approach local PDD officials to know the cause of power curtailment.
The residents urged Srinagar Chief Engineer PDD to look into the matter and redress their grievance at the earliest
