Uttarakhand disaster: Mystery continues over missing Srinagar engineer

Engineer from Soura area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district is among hundreds of people who are still missing following a glacier burst in Uttarakhand.

Basharat, a resident of Soura area of Srinagar was working in a private company, which is on the upper stream of the Alaknanda river.

According to his family, Basharat is untraceable from Sunday.

“We are hopeful to see him alive,” said one of his family member. Adding that we are waiting for the reports from there.

At least 169 people are still missing while 36 bodies have been recovered so far after a flash flood inundated a power project.

Earlier, J&K administration had said that they are in touch with the Uttarakhand government.

Meanwhile, more than 600 army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF personnel are engaged in the rescue operation.
